Textile Museum of Sweden

The Textile Museum of Sweden is home to a fantastic collection of textiles from the mid-19th century to the present day. Fashion, design, textile design, art, clothes and other items are on show here; guiding visitors through the cultural heritage and the future of textiles.

Textile Museum of Sweden is just 30 minutes from Gothenburg and fittingly located at the Textile Fashion Center in Borås; a town with a long history of textile production. The permanent exhibition here is Textilchock, which imagines a world without textiles; the clothes you wear, the cloths, fabrics, fibres and materials that protect and decorate your home – fascinating and thought provoking at the same time.

The collections of the museum contain thousands of materials, samples, clothes and other items and it is also home to one of Europe’s leading collections of textile machines. 2016 sees the opening of a new and spacious exhibition hall; one of the new exhibitions looks at fashion consumption and its impact on the environment, while another; Artist Textiles, presents a private collection of rare textiles influenced by the likes of Picasso and Warhol. Not to be missed.

While you are here you can attend a workshop, viewings, seminars and activities covering all age groups. Try the DIY space to challenge your creativity, or try on clothes from yesteryear.

Textile Museum of Sweden is a part of Textile Fashion Centre located in a former industrial area of this attractive town. Around the museum you can visit a collection of design studios and boutiques at Fashion Gallery, see the future of textiles at Smart Textiles Showroom, or visit The Company with its restaurants, bars and cafés.

Experience the past, present and future of textiles at Textile Museum of Sweden.
