Hofsnäs Herrgård

Länghem, Tranemo

Hofsnäs Herrgård

Many fine houses have been built on the foundations of the building you see here today, which is a two-storey, cream-coloured affair from 1924. The house and others in the area were made famous in the 1928 novel Gårdarna runt sjön 'The houses around the lake' by Swedish author Birgitt Th Sparre. Hofsnäs is positioned in a nature reserve called Torpanäset.

'Charming' is the word you'd probably use to describe Hofsnäs Herrgård with accompanying museum and farm store. On visiting its café you're met with a veritable 'who's who' of Swedish traditional cakes, tarts, biscuits, buns and pastries, all destined for the legendary Swedish fika, or coffee break, which is obligatory several times per day in Sweden.

The café serves meals and on checking the menu it's all pretty much local-sourced meat, poultry, vegetable fruits and cheeses. You can also pre-book the upper floor of this esteemed establishment for meals and you get gorgeous views of the lake for free.
